Tinn Gospel Choir

In addition to the school work and other related academic activities, Peter and Geoffrey actively participated and sang in a Gospel choir in Austebdg. Shown is a presentation of the choir to a family meeting that was held at the community prayer house on the 9th Nov. 2008. According to the choir leadership, they were very happy to receive the two gentlemen as the choir had only been composed of a ladies. This could make the choir's performance much better with the introduction of the base tone from the gentlemen.

A meeting with Saliou Kana

Geoffrey and Peter had an opportunity to meet the patternship contact person in Fk Saliou Kana. This was on the 17th Oct. 2008 in Oslo FK main offices prior to his meeting he had with Ingrid and Tom.

Geoffrey and Peter shared with him their experinces so far in Norway and reported that every thing was going on well.

Emulate the Norwegian Education System

Any country whose technological devolpment is still lagging behind deserves the

kind of vocational school curriculum as the one in Norwegian schools. The most

important aspects of this curriculum include,

• The kind of training where trainees (students) study by doing exactly what the job market expects them to deliver.


• Routine visitation and actual working of trainees in the relevant industries of their future jobs in the course of their training.


• Industrial working experience of two years of all trainees after school before authoriastion for employment.

This kind of vocational training is the only solution to the lagging technological advancement of many countries and to the problem of having university graduates that are more of job seekers rather than job creators. The photographs attached to this text include construction students at Rjukan upper secondary school buying timber from a store for their house constrution poject in Rjukan town. Also attached are electrical students from Rjukan upper secondary school working on some projects in class.

An Experience in a Norwegian Classroom

Peter and Geoffrey will leave to tell how interesting it can be to teach in Norway basing on the number of students in a classroom where most classes range between 12 and 20 students. On the other hand it is normal a Ugandan school to have up to 80 students in a class room.

A Visit To a Norwegian Boarding School

It was again an interesting experience to pay a visit to a Norwegian boarding school. On the 25th Oct. 2008, Aavald, a teacher at Rjukan Vgs and the wife Bjorg had to visit their daughter Aasta at the school's visitation day. Geoffrey and Peter had to cease the opportunity to have a comparison between a Norwegian and a Ugandan boarding school. The name of the school is KVITSUND GYMNAS, having a population of 190 students of both boys and girls. This is a school with a strong christian back ground and students are quite disciplined. Final year students of the school always fundraise money through different activities like concerts and such money is used to support needy people else where in the world. The 2008 final students where supporting needy people in Kenya(East Africa) and these included orphans, Normadic pastalists and the like.

Students' visit to Gaustablikk road works.

On 23rd Oct. 2008, first year construction students of Rjukan vgs had a study strip to mountain Gauster. The visit mainly focused road construction works around the mountain. Students were briefed about how road construction material is prepared from rocks. Some students had an opportunity to operate one of the road construction machines. The teachers that escorted the students included, Aavald, Eric and Geoffrey. Above are some of the snap shots taken from the trip.

United Nations Party in Rjukan

On the 23rd October 2008, we could hesitate to attend a United Nations party in Rjukan. One may be wondering what is is all about. This is an annual event where residents of Rjukan come together with the main purpose of bringing people of different nationalities but living in

Norway together. Above is Peter, Tom , Geoffrey and Ingrid as entertainment was going on.

FK participants visit to Oslo

Parcipants had an outing to Oslo to have some shopping and tour around the city. Here is a picture taken at the parliamentary building having a guided tour by one of the staff. It was quite an educative trip. Other places visited included the national museum and Fk offices in Oslo.
